How To Improve Your Mornings

All I ever hear when I get to work, is people moaning ‘I didn’t want to get up this morning’, ‘how are you so awake?’ or ‘have you had coffee this morning?’ The amount of people that can’t wake themselves up on a morning actually shocks me when you can just do a few simple things.

Don’t Over/Under Sleep!

It is actually shocking that most adults don’t know the average amount of sleep an adult needs. An adult should get a recommended 7-9 hours of sleep a night. Whereas most people function on about 5-6 as they decide they need to stay up late and watch their favourite programs or sit watching random videos on youtube. You need to work out what time you need to get up in a morning and ensure that you are ready for bed in order to have atleast 7 hours of sleep. I hear a lot of people also say, they have early nights and sleep for about 10 or 12 hours, this is not good as your body is having too much sleep and make you feel worse when you wake up.




Put Away the Technology!

It has been proven that using technology half an hour before you go to bed actually wakes up the brain and stops you from having a good night sleep as your brain is not relaxed. So while you figuring out the best time to get ready for bed, make sure that it involves you being away from technology for 30 minutes before hand. This doesn’t mean you need to go in a dark room with a candle, it can be your time to wind down, get yourself prepared to go to bed or read a book. Don’t spend that thirty minutes on youtube watching a singing dog.


Be Prepared

This one is probably the most obvious. Before going to bed make sure you have everything set out ready for the next day, this will leave your mornings stress free and make everything so much easier! This can be as simple as setting out your outfit instead of throwing on the first thing you see in your wardrobe and looking uncoordinated, as you start becoming more organised on an evening you will find you will start setting out everything you need including make-up or whatever hair products you will be using the next day.


The amount of people I know that skip breakfast or just have a cup of coffee or tea on a morning is shocking! I do not understand why people do this? YOU NEED TO EAT! It is true what they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. This is the meal where you should make sure your getting most of your carbs and protein to give you energy for your day. Eating most of your carbs on the morning means that you have the day to burn it off and not feel guilty for eating bread that day. Making sure you have a decent breakfast on a morning wakes up your body and get your metabolism going for the rest of the day, so please do not skip breakfast thinking it is going to make you slim because it is not going to work!


This is the one word everybody dreads, especially first thing on a morning. It is actually shocking how a little bit of exercise on a morning can wake you up and get you going for the rest of the day! This does not mean you need to wake up, get out the weights and do a leg exercise which is going to stop you walking for the rest of the day. When I first started doing exercise first thing in a morning, I would start by doing a simple 20-30 minutes yoga workout which I would usually find on youtube. A little bit of yoga or even pilates first thing, wakes up your body get you going for the rest of the day!


These are just a few things that makes it easier for me to get up first thing in a morning, what do you do to wake yourself up?

    So to be honest I do work out in the mornings! But I do not eat… Bad, I know, but I have such a hard time eating in the mornings!! Also I have to try that half-hour no electronics idea!! (i am saying this while laying in bed with my tv and phone but ok I will start tomorrow). Great post!

    Great tips! I’m a terrible morning person even though I should be used to it by now with my little one!!! Apparently not though haha. I usually prepare the night before though so there’s no rushing around in the mornings.

    I’m just a morning person! Though I do struggle to get up more in the winter, when it’s dark, so I’ll be keeping your advice in mind for then!

    Thank you for the awesome tips! I tend to mindlessly scroll through my phone at night, and I’ve noticed that it does have an affect on me in the mornings. I LOVE to read before bed. Not only do I fall asleep better, but I also feel less guilty haha.
